QA Engineer

 

Location: Boston, MA

Duration: 6+ Months

Rate: Market

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Provide quality control oversight to report, track, and validate client editorial corrections for an interactive digital environment.

·         Perform Quality Assurance tasks individually and as part of the development team

·         Perform functional, smoke, negative, regression, and cross-browser testing

·         Design and execute functional and regression test plans

·         Collaborate with product management and engineers to develop and implement tests

·         Detect software failures so that defects may be discovered and corrected

·         Document trends, anomalies, and issues by creating task level items in the ticket tracking system (JIRA)

·         Accurately document test results, compare to expected results, and report deficiencies in detail

·         Manage completion of other self-directed projects with minimal supervision

·         Tactfully liaise with client content producers to resolve content issues under tight deadlines

·         Perform other related duties as required Requirements

·         2-4 years prior experience in Quality Assurance practices in the Education, Publishing or E-Learning Industries

·         Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Technology, Education, Design, Communications or equivalent experience

·         Exposure to project management and interest in developing that experience on self-directed projects

·         Demonstrated experience with, and understanding of, Best Practices in Quality Assurance and Testing

·         High energy, positive attitude, and "Make It Happen" philosophy with a strong work ethic to see task through completion

·         Insight, imagination, and aptitude for identifying bugs or trends and diplomatically communicating those issues to internal stakeholders and clients

·         Superior attention to detail

·         Ability to maintain focus amidst interruptions and shifting priorities

·         Excellent observation, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

·         Solid Understanding of relational databases and MySQL.

·         Proven understanding of the software development life cycle and interest in developing project management skills

·         Testing experience in a web-based environment

·         Demonstrated ability to function as part of a distributed team using remote communication tools such as video conference, IM, and email

·         Ability to work under pressure on tight deadlines

·         Experience with industry standard QA tools for defect tracking — JIRA preferred

 

Additional Qualifications

 

·         Experience with Educational Software or experience in K-12 and/or Higher Education Industry with knowledge of common practices such as curriculum alignment, standards, correlations, adoption process, assessment development, rights and permissions, and other editorial-specific content issues.

·         Working knowledge of web software development (HTML5, JavaScript, MySQL, CSS, XML)

·         Unix/Linux shell scripting, SQL Queries

·         Some familiarity with Automated Testing Processes

·         Experience in an Agile development environment

·         Prior experience with small companies and dynamic projects is a plus
